Engraved by Charles Tomkins, this aquatint engraving offers a detailed stern view of the "Royal Charles," a grand ship built in 1673. The intricate design on the ship's stern prominently features a coat of arms, displaying the mottoes "Dieu et mon Droit" of British royalty and the Order of the Garter. The scene is set with a sail billowing in the wind above the ship, highlighting the vessel's majestic and stately appearance. The engraving captures the elaborate and ornate craftsmanship of the ship's stern, adorned with sculptures, lanterns, and elaborate woodwork. The handwritten inscription on the margin identifies the ship as the "Royal Charles."
