The photograph, taken in 1861 by G.W. Wilson, depicts HMS Impregnable at Devonport. The image captures the ship in a serene harbour setting, framed by branches in the foreground, which add a natural border to the scene. HMS Impregnable, a large and imposing warship, is shown with its sails furled and masts towering, creating a stark contrast against the calm water and the distant shoreline. The clarity and composition of the photograph highlight both the grandeur of the ship and the tranquillity of the harbour, making it a historically rich and visually striking image.
